(about the artist)
Through
video, installation, performance and scenography, Sid Dankers (BE 1998)
explores the performative state: the de facto condition of the body
under public exposure. By means of staged alienation, this performative
state is illuminated and exposed, blurring the line between fiction and
non-fiction.
Self-constructed sets, environments and backgrounds
form the framework in which scenes can emerge. Inhabited worlds can
range from hellfires built of plastic flames to childhood toy castles
and deserted grey office buildings. Drawing on iconography and
archetypes, and by consciously deploying and highlighting them, their
reading is opened up for reinterpretation.
In an often
interdisciplinary and collective process, ‘entering the stage’ is made
explicit by the fact that performers are not sovereign demigods but
reveal the fragile and deeply human through hesitation, awkwardness and
immaturity.
Sid Dankers lives and works in Brussels and obtained his Master in fine arts at LUCA School of Arts, Brussels.
